In 2009 Ian and I went to Sabah on an Eagle Eye tour. There were just 4 of us, plus a Canadian guide and a guide from Sabah. The trip was not entirely birding, focus was also on wildlife. We flew into Kota Kinabalu to meet the others. The next morning we flew to Lata Datu, then drove to a lodge, Tabin.

Note: this was before I had a good camera and knew anything about photography... so the photos are well.....

We went to the Guagongatong Caves where the Edible-nest Swiftlets nest as well as bats. The nests are harvested for Bird's Nest soup. There was a wooden walkway into the cave that was slimy and covered with cockroaches. Impossible to see the nests or the birds other than those flying around. I braved the walk but would not do it again!!

We found a troop of Proboscis Monkeys crossing a small stream on some vines

Storm's Stork

Sepilok Nature Lodge - the orchid garden was beautiful!

At the Orangutan Rehab Centre, food is put out on a platform and Orangutans in the area come in to feed. When the Orangutans have had their food several Pig-tailed Macaques came in.

A birding tower from where we saw the Bristlehead - a bird only seen in Borneo!

We came across a small group of Bornean Pygmy Elephants on the shore of the river. This male was quite aggressively defending his troop, as Ian was taking photos - I was safely in the boat!!

Our last few days were spent at Mount Kinabatu National Park. We did not climb the mountain (it takes a couple of days) but hiked several trails around it.
